Commitment - The state or quality of being dedicated to a cause or activity. As the definition stands from an online source.

What is something that you have made a commitment to lately? Is it something small or big? I don't think it matters, but the fact that you made that commitment is a good thing. We make numerous commitments in our lives on a daily basis, and most of the time we don't even realize we are doing it. Watching or completing one of our favorite t.v. shows for instance. I think we can all agree that once we get locked in on a show, we are sure to finish it no matter what! How about a weekly routine of working out, a weekly outing with our friends, a recreational sport or activity, Sunday football, a playoff series. The truth is, we make daily commitments (completing a task at work, sticking to a plan to meet a co worker for drinks after work), monthly commitments, yearly commitments, big or small all of the time. We are not always conscious of these commitments, but none the less, we make them.

Now, the question is, can we make healthy, productive and beneficial commitments consciously and consistently? To take it even a step further, can we make these commitments to the things that we truly want to accomplish, like a dream. Can we make a large commitment to chase and achieve a dream of ours that we have either always had, or have newly found? These are the hardest types of commitments, because you don't always see instant gratification from these pursuits. More often than not the reward is in the work and the physical (money or something monetary based) doesn't come for a while. This of course looks different to everyone, but the internal success you gain from this commitment and pursuit is extensive. You are feeding your soul, which in turn feeds your mental health, emotional health and ability to push through those hard days and work weeks when you really don't want to be there. It gives us HOPE. It gives us Relief. It gives us a Reason.

I guess all I am saying here is...try to make a larger commitment to something that you may have always wanted to do or pursue in your life. If there is something you want to do or have always wanted to do then GO FOR IT!! You have this one single life, that people say goes faster than you think, and you only have what you have been given (your looks, your ability, your likes and wants), so use those and take a risk. Take a leap of faith. Go for something you think is "out of reach". Everyone has to start somewhere right? People don't just start out on top, its only on top where you see them without seeing the thousands of hours these people put in to getting where they are. As the 5th century B.C. Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu said "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". Make your first step right NOW...Why not??? And before you come up with some excuse...there are none. YOU are what is stopping YOU. Go!! Start!! Begin your new journey.
